She has vision, a strong one, that is enough to build her own school focusing on art. Mrs. Monika Irayati persistently maintain the growth of her school, Erudio School of Art (ESOA) because she believes that every child has their potentials that should be facilitated and appreciated.

When we ask the reason why she built ESOA, she answered with “education must be something liberal. Something that gives freedom card for everyone to explore. But that does not occur for me and my child. On contrary, education that most of us bear is something with constrain. We can not choose what we want because those adults steer our way. That is my starting point to build this school.”

ESOA itself is a non-formal institution focusing on art and design which is equal to project-based high school and it uses visual devices as its learning media. This school applies democratic learning. And by democratic it means every it provides a learning environment that can maximize every potential and uniqueness of students. Through the learning process, students are designated to have beyond creativity, courage to explore, and self-finding.

“I had been working in corporate for 14 years and wondering the same thing every day: what is my life purpose. My life seems to be meaningless at the moment. Until finally I sense that I must do something, not merely just wake up in the morning and work at my desk”, she said. And do you guess she will just stop here? Making one school? The answer is a big no. She is now having another school, channeling human’s potential in science, technology, engineering, and math; she built Erudio School of Science (ESOS). The vision is the same, she wants this school to inspire her students to create a better life.

What is my life purpose? My life seems to be meaningless at the moment. Until finally I sense that I must do something, not merely just wake up in the morning and work at my desk
